Drawing inspiration from '60s surf rock and girl groups, Best Coast's noisy lo-fi sound gives a nod to contemporaneous acts like Hot Lava, the Vivian Girls, and Brilliant Colors. The band's first year saw a flurry of little releases, and by 2009 Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno had become something of a sensation; the duo enjoyed a bit of attention from the media (notably from Nylon magazine), and the EP Make You Mine made its way onto a few year-end lists. Best Coast eventually signed to Mexican Summer Records, resulting in their 2010 debut, Crazy for You.
